Sports Journalism: Baseball
Students will learn about and engage in sports journalism as they attend and write about baseball games on the West Coast (San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle). Students will attend at least five major league games, meet with baseball writers and industry executives, and tour sports facilities in each city.
Course assignments include the opportunity to document the games using several forms of sports communication: blogs, podcasting, photojournalism, and social media. The study tour includes other sports games (as available), and optional cultural activities including museums, parks, and historical sites. The course is designated as Writing Intensive and would be especially valuable for students interested in careers in sports media, sports business, marketing, or public relations. The tour leaves just after graduation, but counts as a J-Term course.
This course fulfills the WI requirement.
