Carthage violin professor Charlene Kluegel released a landmark album of music by suffragette composers.

Albany Records Overview:

Two women musicians in black dresses “’DISSIDENTS OF THE GILDED AGE’ is Duo FAE’s tribute to three pioneering women composers whose work and lives defied the social confines of their time. Featuring Trois Morceaux op. 31 by Cécile Chaminade, Violin Sonata in A minor, op. 7 from suffragette Dame Ethel Smyth, and Amy Beach’s sweeping Violin Sonata in A minor, op. 34, these chamber works for violin and piano stand as acts of bold artistic and political expression. Anchored in the women’s suffrage movement of the 19th and early 20th centuries, this collection connects historical and musical dissidence with the present and enduring fight for women’s rights.”

Reviews:

Heralded in Sonograma Magazine: “The interpretation of the violin, refined and expressive, and the piano, sensitive and nuanced, turns these two artists into a musical couple of excellent complicity and profound communicative sense.”
