All Stories

Attention all creative writers!

Each year, as a memorial to professors M.E. Chapin, Wilma Tague, and Juanita Jones, the English Department awards prizes in fiction, non-fiction/hybrid prose, and poetry.

All students are invited to submit four poems, a single short story, or a work of creative nonfiction/hybrid prose; students may submit in more than one genre, but must fill out a separate submission form for each entry. Each prize carries a monetary award. A Faculty Board of Review will choose the winners.

All entries must be submitted by Friday, April 25 to gcairo1@carthage.edu. Late submissions will not be considered.

No name should appear anywhere in the manuscript. Your name should be filled in on a form (please copy and paste from below) and emailed along with the submission. Please fill out a separate form for each genre in which you submit an entry.

The announcement of the award will be made at the English Department Awards gathering at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, in the Niemann Media Theater.

Important note: The entry form must be submitted with each entry. Your name should be listed on the form and not on the manuscript.
