On March 26, Carthage hosted the 8th annual Educators Rising Event.

Keynote speaker Jody Bloyer, deputy superintendent of RUSD.The event is a collaborative initiative designed to engage Education Pathway middle and high school students enrolled in the Carthage College dual credit program. Participants attend sessions led by Carthage students, faculty, staff, and community leaders. The event’s goal is to provide students with the support, skills, and knowledge needed to pursue careers in education — ultimately encouraging them to become educators.

Carthage welcomed juniors and seniors from the Racine Unified School District (RUSD) and Kenosha Unified School District (KUSD) to campus for the event, which was organized by Siovahn Woolum, associate dean and associate professor of education. This year’s keynote speaker was Jody Bloyer, deputy superintendent of RUSD, who shared insights on leadership and making a difference in education.

Prof. Lynne Steren leading the panel “Got Science?”The success of the event was made possible through the efforts of Elizabeth Brumund-Smith, education coordinator, along with student assistants Isabelle Rummel ’25, Grace Steinberg ’26, Fiona Campbell ’26, Janeli Burciaga ’28, and Peyton Patterson ’27. Representatives from the Carthage Aspire Center and Office of Admissions were also present to provide information about educational pathways and career readiness.
