Braver Angels pairs still needed at the polls Oct. 5
Braver Angels is looking for volunteers to take part in a first-of-its-kind event this Election Day. The organization is sending “Red” and “Blue” voters to polling places across the United States to show Americans that, “No matter who we’re voting for, we can — and must — get along.”
Braver Angels at Carthage is looking for Red/Blue pairs in our community (students, faculty, and staff in any combination) to sign up for a shift or two at our campus polling site, located in the lower level of the N. E. Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center (TARC).
Volunteers will stand in the TARC parking lot, at least 100 feet from the voters’ entrance, with posters that encourage civil discourse. Posters will say some variation of the sentiment, “We vote differently, but we both love our country.” Volunteers do not have to be registered in Ward 5 (Carthage’s ward) in order to participate in this goodwill project.
How do you participate?
- Find a partner with whom you disagree politically and make plans for times you have in common on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
- Fill out this Google Form to register you and your partner for the shifts you have in common. If you want to participate but can’t find a partner, email cameron.swallow@gmail.com with your red/blue alignment and available shifts.
- Decide what you will wear to show your political differences: a red hat and a blue hat? Red and blue scarves? Cameron Swallow has a few “American Hope” T-shirts left from the Braver Angels convention held on campus this summer, if you want to wear them over your sweater or jacket. Contact Cameron at cameron.swallow@gmail.com.
- Make your poster, including the Braver Angels logo and website, or hold the single poster we will have printed.
- Show up on Nov. 5 to be a visible example of bridging the divide in our nation!
