Students sitting at a gray table with small piles of Hershey kisses. Laureanna Raymond-Duvernell visited Carthage as a guest speaker in Professor Lynne Steren’s education class: Effectively Teaching Science in the Elementary/Middle School.

Ms. Raymond-Duvernell currently works as the education outreach specialist for the K-12 Energy Education Program (KEEP) at UW-Stevens Point. In this role, she delivers energy education and professional development opportunities to students and educators across Wisconsin, from 4K through adulthood.

Students in a classroom sitting at long tables. Through a grant funded by Wisconsin energy companies, Ms. Raymond-Duvernell provides teachers and pre-service educators with the resources and training to integrate energy conservation lessons into their classrooms. These lessons are adaptable for all grade levels and cross-curricular, aligning with NGSS standards and incorporating subjects like literature, numeracy, geography, statistics, humanities, and social studies. The grant not only supports Ms. Raymond-Duvernell’s engaging, in-person sessions, but also provides participants with comprehensive lesson plans and the necessary science materials to implement the lessons.

Carthage students in the class were enthusiastic about the experience, with one student stating, “I think the possibilities are endless with these lessons.”
