Ashley Greenwood ’14, MS, LAT is the director of pre-health, clinical education coordinator for the athletic training program, and an assistant professor of allied health science at Carthage College. A proud Carthage alumna, she earned her bachelor’s degree in athletic training before completing a master’s degree in health and kinesiology from Northeastern State University in Oklahoma. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership with an emphasis in Health and Human Performance at Concordia University Chicago.

Prof. Greenwood brings a decade of clinical and academic experience to her role, having served as a certified athletic trainer at NCAA Division II and NAIA institutions, as well as at both small and large high schools and outpatient clinics. She has also taught in Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE)-accredited programs, most recently at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she led courses in kinesiology, health in today’s society, and clinical and didactic courses in upper and lower extremity evaluation. Her professional interests include interprofessional collaboration, student professional development, and the prevention of overuse injuries in pediatric and adolescent populations. She has served as a primary injury reporter for the NFL’s Korey Stringer Institute grant focused on high school athletics safety and continues to contribute to national conversations through scholarly presentations and research. Prof. Greenwood is passionate about mentoring the next generation of healthcare professionals and helping students navigate their paths to careers in the health sciences.

Hear from Prof. Greenwood: Why Health Sciences?

“Athletic training drew me in because it sits at the unique intersection of science, human performance, and care. From early on, I was fascinated by the human body — how it moves, how it heals, and how we as healthcare professionals can make a real difference in someone’s recovery, performance, and overall well-being.”

“Healthcare is my first love because it’s rooted in service, connection, and impact. Whether you’re helping someone return to sport, regain independence, or simply feel heard and supported, every interaction holds meaning. That passion has expanded over time into a broader love for the entire healthcare system and the many roles within it. That’s why I was so excited to help design and launch the allied health science major at Carthage — because I believe in preparing students for diverse and rewarding careers in healthcare, even beyond athletic training. Healthcare is constantly evolving, and I want our students to feel empowered to grow with it, to be adaptable, and to see the value of interprofessional collaboration and patient-centered care.”

“Teaching allows me to combine all of this — my love for science, my experience in clinical settings, and my commitment to helping others — into one meaningful career. I love helping students connect the dots between classroom learning and real-world application, and I especially love mentoring those who are still discovering their place in the health professions. As a pre-health advisor, I get to walk alongside students as they prepare for careers in medicine, therapy, radiography, pharmacy, and more. I get to celebrate their wins, support them through challenges, and help them develop the confidence and clarity to pursue their goals.”
