Jordan Gozum ’28, an engineering major with a minor in business administration, is already taking bold steps toward his future career as an entrepreneur. At Carthage, he’s gained hands-on experience through research with the Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium under the mentorship of Professor Kevin Crosby — an opportunity that has helped him apply his classroom knowledge in real-world contexts. Jordan sees engineering as a powerful foundation for his ambitions. “Engineering is the most flexible degree you can earn,” he says. “It covers every area of STEM, as well as areas of business and social fields.”
Faculty mentors
“Whenever I have questions about my field or need general help, the professors in my department are easily accessible and very open to helping me.”
Campus involvement
“I’m part of Habitat for Humanity and the Engineering Ambassadors Network at Carthage, and I plan to join Pi Sigma Epsilon. I also play baseball.”
Unique opportunities
“I took a summer study tour to Japan.”
Internships or campus employment
“Over the summer, I worked at La Marche Manufacturing, where I was an engineering intern primarily working in the PCB Department. I gained exposure to drafting and schematic design, as well as the work of the mechanical engineers. I also worked in conformal coating, where I gained knowledge of the manufacturing process, including how to start and end jobs, organize tasks, and move jobs through the workflow.”
Best study tip
“Check out professors online and in person, and ask other people for advice and about their experiences with professors. Also, don’t be afraid to ask for help from upperclassmen or go to professors during their office hours.”
