“After visiting the campus, it felt like Carthage was the place for me to be — it just felt like home.”

Why Carthage?

“I was looking for a campus that had a good environment and faculty who could support me along my college journey. The campus was right on the lake, which really caught my eye, and finding out they offered both my majors really made me want to tour the school. After visiting the campus, it felt like Carthage was the place for me to be — it just felt like home. And I saw myself attending Carthage and graduating.”

Favorite class

“Creative Writing with Professor Richard Meier has been my favorite class. Prof. Meier has an effective way of teaching that has helped me think through ideas and approach writing with more confidence. His feedback was clear and encouraging, which made it easier to move past writer’s block. How he ran the class made brainstorming and building ideas for future assignments easier.”

Campus involvement

“I’m currently involved in the sorority Pi Theta and am a student ambassador for the Office of Admissions. I will soon become an orientation leader and peer tutor as well.”

Favorite spot on campus

“I love sitting on the red lawn chairs scattered around campus. They are good spots to relax, read a book, or socialize with friends while admiring the lake.”

Favorite memory

“I have a few favorite memories. One was rushing for my sorority. It was a good opportunity for me to get out of my comfort zone and get to know more people. The second one would have to be meeting my best friends during J-Term.”

Best study tip

“Go somewhere where you feel like you’re going to focus the best, and try not to cram everything in one night. Make sure you take the time to process the material. And ask your professors to explain something to you regarding course material during their office hours; it’ll really make a difference.”

Best tip for making friends

“Definitely go to the fall and spring involvement fairs; they are a great way to get involved and meet people who share things in common with you. Joining a new club you never thought of attending sometimes leads to meeting new friends. Additionally, saying ‘hello’ to the person beside you in class is a great way to make friends. Even just a small interaction can lead to a strong friendship!”
