Majoring in musical theatre and playwriting, Sarah Beavers ’28 is deeply involved in the arts at Carthage. She sings in the Treble Choir, performs in musicals and plays, and contributes behind the scenes on productions. Sarah appreciates the delicacy and care that the faculty and students put into every theatre production. Through these shows, she has created lasting friendships with her cast and crew. “The entire process from auditions to closing night is so fun because you get so close to your castmates and just really form bonds that you wouldn’t otherwise have with people,” she says.

Why Carthage?
“I chose Carthage because of its musical theatre program and how welcoming and supportive all the faculty and students were whenever I visited for auditions or scholarship events. Carthage was also very generous with its financial aid compared to other schools. And I liked knowing I would get to know my classmates because of the smaller class sizes.”
Faculty mentors
“The faculty at Carthage are incredible. They are always willing to meet to answer questions or help students out. They genuinely care about students, and there are real relationships between students and faculty. No one is just a number, and you’ll feel seen and welcomed immediately here.”
Favorite class
“My favorite class so far is my Musical Theatre Techniques class. This class helped me become more confident in my own skills and grow friendships with the people in my program. Now, we are all friends and have jokes and so many memories from this class.”
Toughest class
“My hardest class so far was Aural Skills. It was so hard for me because it took some time to adjust to the teaching style, but once I got through the adjustment period, it was okay!”
Campus involvement
“I am in the Carthage Treble Choir, which puts on several concerts throughout the year and has rehearsals three times a week. I am also heavily involved in our Theatre Department. I like to either help out or star in our shows!”
Career goal
“My career goal is to go to law school to be a criminal defense attorney.”
