Theatre Performance
The day before undergoing open-heart surgery, Logan Gonzalez ’26 received his acceptance to Carthage, along with two scholarships. Amid the stress of a major medical procedure, the news gave him something to look forward to. Transferring in as a theatre major, Logan brought experience from his community college, where he had already performed in several musicals and plays. Since arriving at Carthage, he’s expanded his skills both on stage and behind the scenes, gaining technical knowledge and practical experience. He credits the faculty with helping him grow professionally through hands-on learning and access to industry connections. “I’ve made good connections and got the advice I need to further my education in my field.”
Outside of class, Logan enjoys getting to know the Kenosha area. He often stops by Culver’s and takes late-night drives down quiet country roads. He also likes to explore the town and nearby spots, especially taking in the views along Lake Michigan.

Why Carthage?
“I chose Carthage because I saw that it was a place that cared about the success of its students. I was also told how amazing their Theatre Department was, and I knew there was nowhere else I’d want to be.”
Favorite class
“My favorite class so far has been Voice of the Stage with Professor Martin McClendon. If I could take it 100 more times, I would. The class offers a rich and in-depth look into different dialects and accents from around the world, helping me understand how other people around the world speak and apply it to the craft of acting.”
Toughest class
“My toughest class so far was probably Stage Management. That class gave me a real appreciation for stage managers because I learned how much work goes into being a stage manager and how they are the glue that keeps the theater running together.”
Unique opportunities
“I had the opportunity to travel to Scotland over the summer and take the Carthage original production of ‘Life Cycle of a Star’ to a festival.”
Favorite spot on campus
“My favorite spot on campus is the Studio Theatre. I have done so much good and exciting work there that it has become my go-to place on campus to think and work.”
Favorite memory
“My favorite moment on campus was performing for the first time in the Carthage original production of ‘Terminal Exhale.’ It was my first role at the school, and I put my heart and soul into it. Being able to connect with my peers and put on a show that could change lives was something I am grateful for.”
Best tip for making friends
“To make friends, you have to put yourself out there and be authentic. It doesn’t hurt to say ‘hi’ and connect with others. Joining clubs and being involved in your major’s department is also a big help in making friends and connections.”
Biggest surprise
“The biggest surprise for me is how awesome the Theatre Department is. The department allowed me to flourish and gave me opportunities to see more productions and behind-the-scenes work. I’ve also made connections in the real world to help me as I journey on into my acting career.”
Advice for other students in your major?
“My advice is it’s never too late to act or be a part of something great.”
What would your 8-year-old self think of you now?
“My 8-year-old self would be proud and happy of where I am. I’ve always wanted to act, and I think I’d be excited to have the opportunity to be put in a position where I could be on television. Maybe one day, I’ll be a superhero like Spider-Man.”
