Lacrosse
Hannah Kim ’26 was first drawn to lacrosse after witnessing a tragic moment during a middle school game, when a player unexpectedly passed away on the field. That experience left a lasting impression and inspired her to take up the sport in high school — as a way to honor the time and seasons that player never got. Now playing defense for the Carthage women’s team, Hannah sees lacrosse as much more than a game. It’s a meaningful part of her life and a reflection of her commitment, both on the field and in her pursuit of her degree in allied health science.

Why I chose Carthage
“I chose Carthage because I wanted to pursue my dreams of being a physical therapist and to play collegiate lacrosse. The lake was a beautiful plus as well.”
What it means to be a Firebird
“Being a Firebird means to persevere, to be passionate about what you do, and to overcome adversity.”
How I balance academics and athletics
“I do homework and study whenever I have a break in the day, in between classes, and before practice. I try to do everything before practices and games because I can retain the material better. This allows me to get recovery time in after practice and games and to not have to worry about work.”
The support that helps me succeed
“Faculty and staff support me on and off the field very well. My coaches do a great job advocating for us and always being in our corner.”
My biggest accomplishment at Carthage
“My biggest accomplishment is being able to balance being a student and an athlete.”
My favorite athletic facility
“My favorite athletic facility is Art Keller Field because it’s where we have made many memories as a team.”
How I'm involved beyond athletics
“My involvement on campus includes being a member of Alpha Epsilon Delta, Chi Alpha Sigma, the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC), the Special Olympics, and the Pre-Health Club. I have also worked as an allied health science mentor.”
My career goal
“My career goal is to be a physical therapist, and being a student-athlete helps with this goal because it’s taught me how to manage my time well. It’s also helped me understand not just the physical part of an injury, but the mental battle you go through when you are recovering, so I can empathize with my patients better.”
Advice for other student-athletes
“Go in with a growth mindset and get 1 percent better every single day.”
