Claudia Clare ’26 developed an early interest in golf with encouragement and support from her mother. In high school, she joined the boy’s golf team and later took the initiative to advocate for the creation of a girl’s team during her senior year. Her passion and persistence paid off — Claudia is now a proud member of the Carthage women’s golf team while studying communication, continuing to grow both on the course and in the classroom.

“My coaches and professors are very positive and supportive! I greatly appreciate their support and understanding as I play golf for Carthage.”

Why I chose Carthage

“I chose Carthage because the College gave me the most opportunities!”

How I balance academics and athletics

“I balance being a student and an athlete by keeping busy! Maintaining a calendar has helped me manage all my tasks. I always do my best to ensure I have enough time to complete schoolwork.”

The support that helps me succeed

“My coaches and professors are very positive and supportive! My coach has been willing to advise me and help with things outside of golf, such as providing me with guidance during my internship search.”

My favorite athletic facility

“The Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center is my favorite athletic facility on campus. I like being able to visit the Dale Golf Center to play on the simulators and the putting green. Additionally, I enjoy using the gyms, weight rooms, and indoor track field.”

How I'm involved beyond athletics

“I am involved in many clubs and organizations at Carthage. I am a member of the Honors Language Society, Alpha Mu Gamma. Additionally, I am secretary of the study abroad/cultural learning club, Adventurers Anonymous. I also participate in InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, Public Relations Student Society of America, and French Club.”

My career goal

“I hope to go into international business/marketing. My student-athlete experience should help me with my career. It has taught me how to work on a team, manage my schedule, build confidence, network with others, and many more valuable skills. Golf is a sport often played while making business deals and connecting with others. Being a student-athlete has helped improve my golf skills, which will most likely be very beneficial when I enter the professional world.”
