Steda Lundak ’27 started golfing at a young age, and with her father’s support, advanced to competitive play in high school before joining the women’s golf team at Carthage. With a career in sports photography in mind, Steda is drawing on her time with the golf team, her studies in communication and photography, and her role as a photographer for the Carthage Athletics Office of Communications to build the skills and experience needed to achieve her goals.
Why I chose Carthage
“I chose Carthage because of the location. It’s a little south from my hometown, but still close so I can easily see my family! The lake was a huge plus as well!”
What it means to be a Firebird
“Being a Firebird means performing as strongly as I can every time I am out on the course, so I can take pride in representing our athletic community.”
My favorite team memory
“My favorite memories with my team have been the spring break training trips to Las Vegas! Getting to play golf and have a good time bonding with teammates in the warm weather is so much fun!”
What makes the student-athlete community special
“The student-athlete community is very strong, especially in the classroom! We work together to keep up with assignments we missed due to competitions and build friendships in class!”
How I balance academics and athletics
“I balance being a student-athlete by taking time for myself! Hanging out with my friends and talking to my family ensures I have the mental stability for both school and athletics!”
The support that helps me succeed
“My coaches support me on and off the course in every aspect! When I need something or any information, they are my go-to resources! With my professors, I stay in contact with them constantly while in season to make sure I am prepared for classes!”
My biggest accomplishment at Carthage
“I would say my biggest accomplishment at Carthage has been learning to speak my mind and reach out! I know this is not typical, but with everything I have experienced here, Carthage has reminded me how important those skills are in everyday life!”
How I'm involved beyond athletics
“I am currently the secretary of Banned Book Club, and I work for the Athletic Communications team by taking photos!”
My career goal
“My career goal is sports photography! I think being a student-athlete will help a lot with understanding different sports, how the athletes feel during certain events, and what they want or don’t want!”
Advice for other student-athletes
“The only piece of advice I have is to reach out. Ask the question. I chose Carthage without thinking I could even be competing at a college level, and here I am! Reaching out changed everything for me.”
