Bowling
For Airie Frost ’28, bowling has been a large part of her life. She started the sport in seventh grade and now plays for the Carthage women’s bowling team. Airie has found a strong sense of community at Carthage, especially within the supportive network of student-athletes, where encouragement comes not just from teammates, but also from coaches, professors, and friends in the classroom. She’s also made lasting friendships through student clubs and takes advantage of academic resources like the Peer Tutoring and the Writing Center, which have helped her succeed in her elementary education major.

Why I chose Carthage
“I chose Carthage because of the lake, how small the classes are, how friendly everyone is, and its closeness to home.”
What it means to be a Firebird
“Being a Firebird means being part of more than just a team — it’s a family.”
My favorite team memory
“My favorite memory with the bowling team is going to Whitey’s (an ice cream shop in Moline, Illinois) after a tournament. Everyone was having a great time and laughing.”
How I balance academics and athletics
“I balance being a student and an athlete by having a plan each week of what I need to do — assignments, tests, etc. I try to spend my time in between classes and practice studying, hanging out with friends, or grabbing a bite to eat.”
The support that helps me succeed
“My coaches and professors support me by asking how my day is, checking what I have planned for the week or weekend, and helping me with whatever I need help with. Carthage also provides all students with free resources like Peer Tutoring, the Writing Center, and the Health and Counseling Center to help us.
My biggest accomplishment at Carthage
“My biggest accomplishment at Carthage was getting a 4.0 GPA my first semester in college!”
My favorite athletic facility
“My favorite athletic facility on campus is the Tarble Arena because everyone comes together there to cheer on all the teams competing.”
How I'm involved beyond athletics
“I am involved in Carthage Swifties and the Art Club on campus. Swifties is an opportunity for Taylor Swift fans to come together and talk about her music. In the Art Club, we make a new craft each week. It is a very calm and relaxing time to make crafts, talk with your friends, and make new friends. In both of these clubs, I painted a tote bag. They were so fun to make!”
My career goal
“A career goal I have is to become a kindergarten teacher! I think using my student-athlete experience will help me as I’ve learned important skills such as time management, teamwork, and leadership.”
Advice for other student-athletes
“Maintain your stress with positive sayings. Have a healthy lifestyle and mindset every day.”
