“The community is super supportive and friendly. Everyone basically knows each other and is there to lend support.”

Why I chose Carthage

“I chose Carthage because it was close to home. I also wanted to build one-on-one connections with my professors.”

What it means to be a Firebird

“Being a Firebird means being there for other athletes and showing as much support for other athletes as you can.”

My favorite team memory

“My favorite memory is traveling to California for our Slug Fest Tournament and being able to go on the beach with the guys.”

What makes the student-athlete community special

“Being a student-athlete at Carthage is very easy because all the professors want you to succeed. Everyone always offers a lending hand, which makes the experience better. It is super easy to make friends and feel at home.”

How I balance academics and athletics

“I balance being a student and an athlete by trying to focus on my academic goals before anything. It’s important to focus on academic progress so you can stay eligible for the season. To help, I have a Google calendar set up with all my sporting events, such as practice and games, so I know when to complete homework.”

The support that helps me succeed

“Both the coaches and professors understand I am busy, so they are always willing to help by giving me extra time on assignments or time to sit down and talk. My coaches are always trying to help me become the best athlete and person possible. Carthage also offers students a protein station called The N.E.S.T., which helps with recovery.”

My favorite athletic facility

“My favorite athletic facility has to be Tarble Arena. The environment during any athletic game there is incredible, and the support shown to the team on those days is crazy.”

My career goal

“My goal is to go to grad school, so I can become a clinical psychologist. Being a student-athlete has helped me because it forces me to work on time management and interact with many new people.”

Advice for other student-athletes

“My advice is to not compare yourself to others. Have confidence in yourself, and make sure that you remember the whole point of the sport is to have fun.”
