Why I chose Carthage
“I chose Carthage for the smaller class sizes, the academics, and the opportunity to continue playing a sport I love. Carthage is very accommodating toward athletes and is committed to helping all students succeed in and out the classroom. The team culture, the campus community, and the opportunity to grow both on and off the field made it an easy decision for me.”
My favorite team memory
“My favorite memory would have to be our trip to Puerto Rico. Our team got to compete against two great teams and practice in the coolest stadium. When we were not playing basketball, we got to venture around and explore. We had a ton of fun, and it was one of those experiences that reminded me why I love being part of this program.”
How I balance academics and athletics
“Balancing being a student and an athlete is very easy at Carthage. I stay organized with my schedule, whether it’s with a planner, setting reminders, or planning out my week in advance. I’ve learned to take advantage of any downtime, whether that’s getting homework done between classes or studying on the bus to games. It also helps to have supportive teammates and coaches who understand that the student side comes first. It’s a challenge, but it’s made me more focused and driven in both areas.”
The support that helps me succeed
“My coaches and professors at Carthage have been incredibly supportive. The coaches really understand the student-athlete balance and always emphasize academics first. They check in on how I’m doing in classes and are flexible when things come up with exams or assignments. My professors are understanding about my travel schedules and are always willing to work with me if I communicate with them ahead of time.”
My career goal
“My goal is to become a dentist, and I truly believe my experience as a student-athlete is going to help me in that career. Being an athlete has taught me the importance of discipline, time management, and handling pressure. I’ve learned how to stay focused, work through challenges, and be a part of a team, all of which will carry over into my future as I go through dental school and eventually work with patients and other healthcare professionals.”
