Ben Woods M.M. ’25
Ben Woods M.M. ’25 is a dedicated educator, performing artist, and ministry leader who brings a dynamic blend of creativity, collaboration, and leadership to every endeavor. Originally from Jackson, Mississippi and now based in Chicago, Illinois, he holds a BFA in Theatre with a specialization in Directing from Southern Methodist University (Dallas, TX) and a Master of Music in Music Theatre Vocal Pedagogy from Carthage College.
Before joining the faculty at Carthage, Prof.Woods served as theatre and music director for Kenosha Unified School District, where he led multiple mainstage productions and guided student ensembles to regional and national recognition, including honors at the International Thespian Festival, the Junior Theater Festival, and Overture’s Jerry Awards. His work with KUSD emphasized artistic excellence, youth empowerment, and community engagement — values that continue to shape his pedagogy.
With experience teaching, directing, and music directing at both the high school and collegiate levels, Prof. Woods fosters inclusive, student-centered environments grounded in exploration and ensemble-driven collaboration. His teaching philosophy is deeply influenced by Cristal Chanelle Truscott’s SoulWork Method, which encourages students to cultivate artistic identity through curiosity, care, and accountability.
Outside the classroom, Prof. Woods is an accomplished multi-genre musician and recording artist, with work spanning R&B, gospel, and musical theatre. He has served as a worship leader in both intimate church settings and large-scale congregations, and continues to mentor emerging artists in performance, vocal health, and creative expression.
