“The student-athlete community is great. Knowing that there are so many people working toward one shared goal, even if it’s in different sports, makes everyone want to work harder and support each other’s successes.”

Why I chose Carthage

“I chose Carthage because of the great atmosphere among my team and the campus.”

What it means to be a Firebird

“Being a Firebird means always sticking by your teammates and putting in the extra effort to do what it takes to win.”

My favorite team memory

“My favorite memory is playing games on the beach in Santa Cruz, California for our volleyball trip.”

The support that helps me succeed

“Coach JW Kieckhefer is always there to talk if anything is on my mind or any of my teammates’ minds. The professors are always understanding about athletic commitments, and they really want to see you succeed in your sport and in the classroom. The recovery room and student weight room also help to keep me in shape, whether I’m in or out of season.”

My favorite athletic facility

“My favorite athletic facility is The N.E.S.T. I feel productive when I do recovery and homework at the same time.”

My career goal

“My career goal is to work in a space where I can use both majors efficiently. Being a student-athlete has taught me how to better my time management skills and has improved my leadership and people skills.”

Advice for other student-athletes

“Don’t be afraid to take the leap and commit to college-level competition — you won’t regret it.”
