Why I chose Carthage
“I chose Carthage because of the location and facilities. I am not too far from home, and the campus is beautiful! The Athletic Department cares a lot about their student-athletes. They are always looking for ways to improve our programs and equipment.”
My favorite team memory
“My favorite memory with my team is beating the #2 nationally ranked team or our team trip to Puerto Rico!”
What makes the student-athlete community special
“The student-athlete community at Carthage is supportive. We genuinely care about each other’s successes. When teams make it to the playoffs, it’s common for everyone to show up in themed outfits, pack the stands, and cheer them on. It’s an amazing feeling to know that the whole campus — from the band, dance team, and cheerleaders to the professors, coaches, and fellow students — are behind you and your team.”
How I balance academics and athletics
“I definitely learned a lot about time management as a college student-athlete. For me, it helps to see all of my obligations planned out visually, whether that be with a physical journal or using a Google calendar. This way, I know what I have time for and when I need to take time for myself.”
The support that helps me succeed
“My coaches and professors are really understanding of the challenges that come with being a student-athlete. They check in on how we’re doing, whether it’s being flexible with deadlines when we’re traveling for games or just reminding us they’re there if we need anything. They make it clear that they want us to succeed as people, not just as athletes or students.”
My biggest accomplishment at Carthage
“One of my biggest accomplishments at Carthage has been maintaining a strong GPA while balancing so everything else. I’ve built lifelong friendships, competed as a collegiate athlete, and stayed actively involved in campus events and organizations. I feel incredibly grateful and proud of the way I’ve grown and what I’ve achieved during my time here.”
My favorite athletic facility
“My favorite facility is the Tarble Arena because it creates a big-school atmosphere for the Division III setting. When the stands fill up on game days, it’s a fun place to compete.”
How I'm involved beyond athletics
“I am involved in Carthage’s Black Student Union. We use the organization as a place to unite and uplift the minority community at Carthage, while welcoming people of all cultures. We host activities and events to listen to music, have fun, and get to know others!”
My career goal
“My career goal is to further my education and become a licensed social worker or therapist. My student-athlete experience has helped me cultivate leadership, communication, and time management skills, which are essential for the field.”
Advice for other student-athletes
“If you love your sport and want to represent at a higher level, then go for it! You will make so many friends and memories that will last you forever. Even when things get hard, whether that be a bad game or a tough workout, the good moments make it all worth it. Stay true to yourself and continue to work hard, and you’ll have a great experience being a collegiate athlete.”
