Why I chose Carthage
“I chose Carthage because of the school’s nursing program. The simulation lab impressed me very much when I came to visit. The clinical sites were also all close to the school. Another reason I picked Carthage was the swim team. I knew that I wanted to swim in college, and I wanted to swim for a team that I could still improve with and be an asset to. The HARIBO pool was also a great plus to coming here.”
What it means to be a Firebird
“To me, being a Carthage Firebird symbolizes a vibrant pursuit of knowledge, personal growth, and making a lasting impact.”
My favorite team memory
“My favorite memories are from training trips in Florida and Puerto Rico, and from spending time with my friends.”
What makes the student-athlete community special
“The student-athlete community is very close-knit. The swim team is pretty much one big friend group that hangs out and supports each other, even outside of the pool.”
How I balance academics and athletics
“For me, it hasn’t been difficult balancing being a student and an athlete. I’ve found that many of the professors are very accommodating to athletes and allow us to make up anything we may miss due to practice or meets. Also, being a student-athlete requires us to be well organized with classes, practice, and finding time to get homework done.”
The support that helps me succeed
“The coaches are very supportive of all the swimmers. They are always open to having a meeting with us to talk about goals for the season, how school or swimming is going, or anything else.”
My biggest accomplishment at Carthage
“My biggest accomplishment was beating the school’s 800 freestyle relay record at the conference championship.”
My favorite athletic facility
“My favorite athletic facility is the 16 lane pool. It is personally one of my favorite pools to swim in.”
How I'm involved beyond athletics
“I am also involved in the Soccer Club at Carthage. I have also played soccer for most of my life. The club allows anyone at any level of soccer experience to join and play soccer.”
Advice for other student-athletes
“I would say that if you are considering playing a sport in college, you should definitely do it. Competing at the college level is an incredible experience that challenges you to grow both personally and professionally. It allows you to become better at time management by balancing academics, training, and your personal life. It is also a great way to meet people and make friends.”
