A forward-thinker from the start, Madison Felgenhauer ’26 made sure to dedicate time to her studies in high school in preparation for college. Doing this not only sharpened her foundational skills — it secured her an academic scholarship to Carthage. “The scholarship has made me realize that the work you put into your studies in high school really does pay off!” she says.

Now a biology major, Madison is still looking ahead, using Carthage’s Aspire Center to explore career options and plan her next steps. “Since my freshman year, l’ve met with my success team to review my four-year plan, search for careers and internships, explore options within my majors, and help me decide where to head next in life!”

Why Carthage?

“I chose Carthage because of the numerous resources and advising programs, the small class sizes, and, of course, the lake!”

Faculty mentors

Campus involvement

Unique opportunities

“I had the opportunity to study abroad in Paris, France over J-Term! I had such a wonderful time exploring the history of Paris — particularly its significant connection to the French Revolution. Admiring iconic Parisian landmarks, like the Eiffel Tower, was my favorite part!”

Best study tip

“My best studying tips are to stay ahead of your work, study in segments, ask questions in class, utilize all your resources when studying (lecture notes, videos from class, worksheets, etc.), and keep practicing the skills!”

Best tip for making friends

“Getting involved on campus is a great way to make friends! Join organizations and attend the events and programs that Carthage hosts. I’ve met so many amazing people by putting myself out there this way.”

What would your 8-year-old self think of you now?

“I would’ve been blown away if 8-year-old me saw what I am doing in college! I never would’ve imagined the amount of time and effort I dedicate to my biology studies. If only I could show her my lecture notes — she would’ve thought I was a mad scientist!”
