How did Carthage prepare you?

“I gained extraordinary support from the professors and staff. They were always willing to go the extra mile. There were also many opportunities provided to the students that other schools could not offer.”

Why did you choose Carthage?

“I chose Carthage because I could receive the quality of education I desired without the fear of being lost in a large collegiate setting. When visiting Carthage, I felt I could make it a second home.”

What opportunities were made possible because of your Carthage experience?

“I had the opportunity to conduct research through the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience. After finishing my student teaching experience at Carthage, I was also immediately hired by the Racine Unified School District.”

What Carthage professors played a part in your success and how?

“Professors Christine Blaine, Kevin Morris, Tim Eckert, and Aaron Trautwein were all phenomenal professors  who helped me succeed as an educator. The ability to come and just talk with them as a student and develop relationships with them outside the classroom has greatly influenced how I approach my own career. I’ve been fortunate to give back by sharing my career experiences with future STEM educators through Carthage’s NOYCE Community of Practice Group.”

What role have the values in Carthage's mission, "Seeking Truth, Building Strength, Inspiring Service — Together" played in your life?

“One of the most important things I get to teach my students is how to advocate for themselves. Building the strength to speak up for yourself is something that I wish I would have learned much earlier than I did.”

What's your favorite Carthage memory?

“Some of my favorite memories include working in the Center for Faith and Spirituality, attending fundraising events, studying for hours with friends, and developing a family of friends who always supported each other from freshman to senior year.”

Tips for current Carthage students?

“I would tell Carthage students exactly what I tell my high school students. Take advantage of every opportunity presented to you, as you never know what will help shape who you are as a person. Take chances on yourself and do not back down from adversity. Challenge yourself to always do better.”
