What have you enjoyed most about your career?
“This position specifically allowed me to dive deep into how websites are created, managed, and used. Since my start date at Equity Creative, I have been exposed to WordPress as a CMS to build and manage websites, all while expanding my knowledge of object-oriented programing by creating dynamic web page components using JavaScript and LESS/SASS.”
How did Carthage prepare you?
“My computer science classes were a major factor in my success at Equity. More importantly, I use my critical thinking and researching skills on the job daily. My professor’s at Carthage, both inside and outside my major, taught me how to look beyond the surface and find a solution through self-learning and teaching. When a new problem arises and our team needs an answer, my skills in doing diligent research and finding solutions comes to the surface as a key value that I bring to the team.”
Why did you choose Carthage?
What opportunities were made possible because of your Carthage experience?
What Carthage professors played a part in your success and how?
“Each of my computer science professors played a hand in shaping me into the tech professional I am today. I am grateful for their expertise, patience, and attention. With their teaching, I can address problems from a foundation they laid in my education. Even professors outside of my major encouraged me to explore my learning, no matter the subject. This shaped me to become a well-rounded learner who absorbs more information with every obstacle.”
What role have the values in Carthage's mission, "Seeking Truth, Building Strength, Inspiring Service — Together" played in your life?
“In recent years, I have gravitated towards ‘inspiring service’ and have found a wonderful group of tech professionals through my exploration. About two years ago, I joined Women in Technology Wisconsin as a mentee of their Professional Connections Program, where I was paired with a tech professional from the field to assist me in networking and finding a career after college. I enjoy being a member of the group as I provide assistance where I can to help invoke change and bring more women into STEM fields.”
Tips for current Carthage students?
“The best thing you can do in college is explore. Finding yourself is not easy, and it does not end after your four years at Carthage. It is a process that is ongoing throughout life. So, leave the pressure of trying to decide the rest of your life behind and find something that truly excites you. When you find that, you will have found where you were meant to be.”
