What have you enjoyed most about your career?

“I enjoy coming to work every day knowing that my job is helping avid outdoor enthusiasts enjoy the hobbies they spend their hard-earned discretionary income on. Plus, I get to work with some really cool products, too!”

Why did you choose Carthage?

“As a student who transferred from a large Big Ten school, I chose Carthage because it felt like a tight-knit community — something you don’t get at a school with 50,000+ students. At Carthage, you can ask your professors questions, meet with them outside of class, and truly use them as the resources they are.”

What opportunities were made possible because of your Carthage experience?

“Since Carthage does such a great job encouraging students to continue their education outside of the classroom — whether it be through a job, internship, and/or club — I entered the workforce as someone who provided above entry-level talent. By having an internship and being involved in a club that gave me real-world experience during my time as a student, I could bring experiences into the classroom that made what I was learning more valuable.”

What Carthage professors played a part in your success and how?

“One professor who played a significant role in my success was Professor Lisa Franklin. We first met in my Consumer Behavior class during my sophomore year — the first class I attended at Carthage. From her class introduction alone, I could tell just how much she cared about her students. She pushed her students to bring out their best and never said no to anyone who asked for help. This was something that I had never experienced at my previous university, and I did not think it would happen in college. Carthage professors are not your typical professors; they truly care about your success and happiness during and after your time as a student!”

What role have the values in Carthage's mission, "Seeking Truth, Building Strength, Inspiring Service — Together" played in your life?

“These values are reflected in how I carry myself every day at the office, with my friends and family, and in my community. They help me to look at life through the lens that sees value in everyone around me, no matter how similar or different from me they may be.”

What's your favorite Carthage memory?

“Most of my favorite Carthage memories came from working on group projects in my classes. I got to know all different kinds of people and most of my friends. Carthage helped me become someone who continuously looks for value in the community, especially in areas where I wouldn’t normally look. That’s what being part of a tight-knit community at a liberal arts school does. I think that’s part of what makes a Carthage education so valuable.”

Tips for current Carthage students?

“Take advantage of all the opportunities that Carthage offers out of the classroom! Use your professors to your advantage. If you do, not only will you have a leg up on other recent graduates when you enter the job market, but you will also be much better equipped to succeed!”
