What have you enjoyed most about your career?
“I’ve enjoyed working closely with families. I’ve gotten such positive feedback about how much their lives have changed and how much progress has been made since they have started therapy!”
How did Carthage prepare you?
“My academic advisor led me to the field I’m in today! I remember going to my advisor’s office as a freshman with the full intention of going to get my master’s in occupational therapy. After we talked about the classes and how I’d need to prepare myself for occupational therapy graduate school, I quickly realized that wasn’t the track for me. She listed off ideas of different fields to go into, and applied behavior analysis stuck out to me and I ran with it. I am also extremely grateful for the support I had in drafting up resumes at The Aspire Center.”
Why did you choose Carthage?
“The lake was a big factor in my decision; the beauty of it brought so much happiness into my daily life. I really loved the small size of the school; it helped me to feel very comfortable.”
What opportunities were made possible because of your Carthage experience?
“I definitely think completing a thesis at Carthage not only helped my acceptance into graduate school, it but helped to prepare me for the even bigger thesis that I completed in graduate school.”
What role have the values in Carthage's mission, "Seeking Truth, Building Strength, Inspiring Service — Together" played in your life?
“Carthage’s mission plays out in my everyday life. I understand that I’ll never fully know what it’s like to experience life through a neurodivergent lens, but I can always listen to the stories of those who have and hold myself accountable for how I work with these individuals. I have felt so lucky to learn a lot about compassionate care through a whole new lens for the benefit of the clients and the families that I serve.”
What's your favorite Carthage memory?
“My favorite memories are all with my roommates living on campus. Being able to live that close to so many friends is an experience I’ll probably never get again, and I’ll cherish it forever!”
Tips for current Carthage students?
“The best way to feel at home is to get involved in any way you can: sports, Greek life, music, intramurals, theatre, clubs, etc. Find a niche, and you’ll find your people!”
