How did Carthage prepare you?

“Carthage provided me with the foundational knowledge and experience that spring-boarded me into graduate school and let me further my knowledge on things that I am passionate about. My faculty mentors, like Prof. Pustina, created an experience that fostered my learning and encouraged me to continue on to graduate school.”

How has your liberal arts education benefited you?

“The critical thinking skills I gained allowed me to analyze and interpret information from research articles I read in graduate school. Additionally, the social skills gained from group activities and social settings helped me build connections and long-lasting friendships with the people I met along the way.”

Why did you choose Carthage?

“I chose Carthage because of the small class sizes and the educational programs they offered. Also, who doesn’t want to live next to a beautiful lake?”

What opportunities were made possible because of your Carthage experience?

“I had the opportunity to learn about history on a trip to Germany for a J-Term course. Another great opportunity was traveling to East Tennessee State University for a sport science conference. Not so coincidentally, I went there for my master’s degree!”

What role have the values in Carthage's mission, "Seeking Truth, Building Strength, Inspiring Service — Together" played in your life?

“For me, seeking truth is about endlessly learning. I always want to know more and learn as much as I can. Helping people is important to me because the more we help each other, the better the world we make.”

What's your favorite Carthage memory?

“I was a part of the Tau Sigma Chi social fraternity and the Alpha Lambda Delta honors fraternity. Joining organizations like these were the best decisions because I met amazing people and lifelong friends. Carthage shaped me into a hard-working and charismatic individual.”

Tips for current Carthage students?

“My advice is to experience as much as possible. Try things that look challenging or make you nervous. The best changes happen in discomfort.”
