What have you enjoyed most about your career?

“My career has been fast-paced, challenging, and full of diverse experiences. I started my career with Deloitte Audit in the Chicago office, working on financial services clients — including private equity firms, insurance companies, mutual funds, and hedge funds. I then had an opportunity to transfer to Deloitte’s M&A Advisory practice, working on buy-side and sell-side transactions for financial services and manufacturing clients. I always knew that I wanted to continue pursuing higher education and started the part-time evening and weekend MBA program at the Kellogg School of Management. After graduating from Kellogg, I transferred to the Austin, Texas Deloitte office.”

How has your liberal arts education benefited you?

“Having a liberal arts background has helped me to approach accounting with a holistic mindset. This has been extremely beneficial in the M&A industry when concepts are not always as clear and many changes and risks can be negotiated or influential in the deal environment.”

Why did you choose Carthage?

“I chose Carthage because of its exceptional business school and professors, the multiple leadership opportunities available to students, and the ability to be a collegiate athlete while being a dedicated student.”

What opportunities were made possible because of your Carthage experience?

“I gained international experience while in college through J-Term, acquired internship experience before graduation, and completed the CMA exam upon graduation.”

What Carthage professors played a part in your success and how?

“Professors Julie Dawson, Joe Wall, and Cassie Lau were fundamental to my accounting and finance experience. They all encouraged me to pursue a career in accounting and to challenge myself beyond my limits.”

What role have the values in Carthage's mission, "Seeking Truth, Building Strength, Inspiring Service — Together" played in your life?

“These values are all fundamental to my beliefs and mentality today. I am particularly inspired by the seeking truth component. That was part of the reason why I decided to pursue my MBA at Kellogg and continue to seek truth.”

What's your favorite Carthage memory?

“Joining Delta Upsilon fraternity and making lasting friends. I met many of my fraternity brothers freshman year when we painted Kissing Rock on campus. My fraternity brothers are some of my closest friends today.”

Tips for current Carthage students?

“Get involved with multiple different organizations, and challenge yourself to try new things. You will meet new people with different perspectives and ideas. This is critical as a student of a liberal arts college. It is a way to gain different perspectives and viewpoints.”
