Collegiate and First Nations Rocket Launches blast off in Wisconsin

On April 26, students gathered for two exciting Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium (WSGC) events: the Collegiate Rocket Launch and the 16th Annual First Nations Launch (FNL) National Rocket Competition at Richard Bong State Recreation Area.

The Collegiate Rocket Launch offers students from Wisconsin colleges and universities the opportunity to design and construct rockets for a spring competition. Sponsored by the WSGC, eight teams participated this year.

The First Nations Launch provides students attending Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs), Native American-Serving Nontribal Institutions (NASNTIs), and American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) collegiate chapters with the opportunity to design, build, and fly high-powered rockets. Teams came from all over the U.S. and Canada, including as far away as Honolulu Community College.

The launch was day two of the event, following an exciting day one held on the Carthage College campus that included workshops, safety inspections, a showcase, and oral presentations. It has been an incredible weekend of sharing, learning, and community building.

WSGC at Carthage is led by Professor Kevin Crosby and Christine Bolz.
